Homebirth Class Outline and Calender

Homebirth classes are held on Saturdays.  Group classes will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Birmingham in Homewood.  Private classes will be held at the couple's home.

I am offering these classes to help address the unique needs of Homebirthing families.  Though much about birth is universal, a great deal of what is taught in the majority of childbirth classes has little to do with birth in the home environment.  In this class I will cover:

-Your specific questions and concerns

-What is happening in your body/Anatomy and Physiology of birth

- Trusting your body

-Stages of labor (and why they don’t matter)/Variations of labor

-Preparing for the birth-mentally, physically, your supply list, and preparing siblings

-Coping techniques-positions, movement, breathing, relaxation

-Support-birth team, father’s role and doulas at homebirth

-Protocol for transport

-First moments with baby

-Newborn care

-Postpartum care for mom

-Breastfeeding

Birth at home is different than birth in a hospital.  Therefore, a hospital class doesn't fit the needs of homebirthing families.  This class can help families prepare for their birth in a way that is tailored to their situation.  I hope you will join me!  Just send me an email to register for this class.
